The olive tree, known as a symbol of hope, friendship and life, is widely cultivated throughout Mediterranean countries and in the south of China. In the past, peoples used the olives oil as the skin care product, the dried leaves as a tea and a supplement, the flower as a remedy with wonderful healing properties enhancing vitality and energy. But people are still not aware of the amazing healing powers of another component of the olive tree, the leaves.

Key Active Ingredients: The first formal medical mention of the olive leaf, which described its ability to cure severe cases of fever and malaria, ocurred about 150 years ago. The author believed that a bitter substance in the leaves was the key healing ingredient. Before long scientists isolated a substance from the leaf and named it oleuropein, a bitter monoterpene glycoside of the chass known as secoiridoids. Oleuropein and products from its hydrolysis such as elenolic acid,
aglycone, and calcium elenolate, a salt derived from elenolic acid, all have their own unique, potent, and multifaceted attributes to add to the anti-microbial functions of the olive leaf. Oleuropein is also one of the major components found in the polyphenolic portion of olive oil.

Functions: Many researches demonstracted oleuropein has powerful effects on anti-bacteria, anti-virus, lowering blood pressure, increasing blood flow in the coronary arteries, relieving arrhythmias, preventing intestinal muscle spasms.
Research and clinical experience to date indicate that olive leaf extract may be beneficial in the treatment for conditions caused by, or associated with, a virus, retrovirus, bacterium, or protozoan. Among such conditions are influenza, the common cold, meningitis, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), encephalitis, herpes I and II, human herpes virus 6 and 7, shingles, HIV/ARC/AIDS, chronic fatigue, hepatitis B, pneumonia, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, malaria, dengue, bacteremia, severe diarrhea, urinary tract and surgical infections.
Olive leaf extract is a best natural wide-spectrum antimicrobial agents. In a series of experiments, oleuropein was found to inactivate bacteria by apparently dissolving the outer lining of microbes. Research suggests that olive leaf may be a true anti-viral compound because it appears to selectively block an entire virus-specific system in the infected host. It then appears to offer healing effects not addressed by pharmaceutical antibiotics. Olive leaf's broad killing power includes an ability to interfere with critical amino acid production for viruses; an ability to contain viral infection and/or spread by inactivating viruses by preventing virus shredding, budding or assembly at the cell membrane; the ability to directly penetrate infected cells and stop viral replication.
Olive leaf extract seem to benefit AIDS cases because it inhibits the production of reverse transcriptase and protease, enzymes necessary for certain viruses, such as HIV, to damage healthy cells.
Researchers found that oleuropein inhibited oxidation of low-density lipoproteins. This revelation suggests that oleuropein may contain antioxidant properties similar to other phytochemical compounds.
Researchers determined that olive leaf extract causes relaxation of arterial walls in laboratory animals. Such results suggest a possible benefit for hypertension.
Researchers found that aqueous extract of olive leaves reduced blood sugar, and the level of uric acid in rodents. This finding again indicates potential in the treatment of diabetes and heart disease. An elevated uric acid level is a risk factor for heart disease.

Dosages: For health maintenance take 500 or 1000mg  (20% Oleuropein), twice daily with meals. For the common cold take either 1000 mg, 4 times per day with meals. For long standing infections or candida, take 1000mg, three to four times per day, with meals. For healthy folks seeking more energy or the prevention benefits of olive leaf extract, we suggest 500-1000mg per day. The younger and cleaner the body, the more responsive it is to supplements such as this. When a person becomes older and more toxic, more of the supplement is required to do the job.

Safety: Experiments proved the olive leaf extract had no any harmful influence on host cell mechanisms. That meant it was extremely safe and non-toxic, even at high doses. A safety study on calcium elenolate was tested with laboratory animals, and results concluded that no toxic or other adverse side effects were discovered even in doses several hundred times higher than recommended.
